About

Born and raised in Iowa, educated as a chemist, lucky as CAN BE with a wonderful daughter, wife, and extended family, I’m a guy in the Midwest who is a bit obsessed with endurance training. I’ve lived around, including in California, Switzerland, Georgia, Oklahoma, Indiana, and now Ohio. I’ve taught chemistry at various universities and have worked at three chemical companies and have done some chemistry consulting (would like to do more!).

Hometown: Davenport, Iowa.
BS: University of Iowa, Iowa City
PhD: University of California, Berkeley

Growing up I played all kinds of sports (baseball, football, wrestling, track and field, cross country), and then as a late teen/young adult I was really into powerlifting. About fifteen years ago I entered the world of endurance sports.

Some racing highlights:

Numerous marathons, including a 2009 Boston Marathon finish.
